"Off the Record" is merely an ethical term. The President surely knows by now that everything he says, even if it's "Off the Record" is on the Record, because American Journalism does not have ethics. Granted, the station will probably have trouble getting another interview with him for a while. |

I won't completely disagree, but in this particular case ABC was sharing a fiber optic line with CNBC and didn't hear the "Off the Record" part beforehand (they were listening to a feed instead of actually being there to save money or some shit). They found out it was off the record after it was Twittered, and then all related content that ABC controlled was removed. ABC then apologized. So, had ABC not been stupid, it probably would have remained off of the record, at least for some time. That's still not "open." |
